VIDEO: I Vowed to Build 1,000 Churches Before I Die – Bishop David Oyedepo

Ota, Nigeria – 9th June 2025

In a moving sermon that has sparked reactions across Nigeria’s religious community, the Founder and Presiding Bishop of Living Faith Church Worldwide (Winners Chapel), Bishop David Oyedepo, has revealed a personal vow he made to God — to build 1,000 churches before leaving the earth.

The revered cleric made this disclosure during a recent church service, where he shared how his passion for expanding God’s kingdom began long before he had any financial resources.

“Before I had the first bank account, I said, ‘Jesus, if you ever bless me, I want to be part of building new churches,’” Oyedepo told the congregation, highlighting how deeply rooted the vow is in his spiritual journey.

The bishop, known for his influence in Nigeria's Pentecostal landscape, reaffirmed that he had made the commitment as a legacy of service to God, driven by a desire to make a lasting impact beyond his lifetime.

“I told Jesus, I don’t want to come to heaven without a thousand churches built in your name,” he added.

In the same sermon, Oyedepo challenged members of his congregation to re-evaluate their spiritual commitments and make personal sacrifices for kingdom service. Using practical examples, he criticised the unwillingness of some believers to deploy their resources — such as unused vehicles — for church or evangelistic purposes, citing excuses related to cost.

“Some may even have buses that are doing nothing on Sunday, but they won’t bring them out. Because, ah, N2,000 per half litre. If it’s in your heart, go put it in your heart,” he admonished.

He further encouraged believers to reflect their spiritual environment in their daily lives.

“Can I tell you something? Everybody’s a reflection of where he belongs. It’s time you start reflecting what happens in here,” Oyedepo said in a passionate close to his message.

This bold revelation not only underscores Bishop Oyedepo’s well-known commitment to church growth and infrastructure but also comes as a personal testimony that challenges other Christians to consider the legacies they are building in faith.

Oyedepo’s Winners Chapel remains one of the largest and fastest-growing churches in Africa, with thousands of branches worldwide and landmark projects like the Faith Tabernacle in Ota and the recently announced Legacy Ark.
