Clash Erupts Between Governor Oborevwori's Aides Over Tompolo's Position on Warri Delineation Crisis
Asaba, Delta State – A public disagreement has broken out between two aides of Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, over the position of Niger Delta leader and Chairman of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, on the ongoing ward delineation dispute in the Warri Federal Constituency.
The controversy unfolded on Facebook between Mr. Ossai Ovie Success, Senior Special Assistant on Media to Governor Oborevwori, and Mr. Mone Oris, Senior Special Assistant on Community Development.
Mr. Ossai Ovie Success had shared a report claiming that Tompolo had embraced Governor Oborevwori's peace initiative and called for calm over tensions arising from the ward and polling unit delineation exercise in Warri Federal Constituency.
According to the report, Tompolo urged peaceful protesters occupying oil and gas facilities in the Escravos and Warri River areas to remain calm and warned against allowing the protests to degenerate into violence. He was also quoted as calling for an emergency meeting of community leaders and urging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to do the right thing in the interest of peace and justice.
However, Mr. Mone Oris dismissed the report as false.
In a Facebook post, the governor's aide shared a screenshot of Ossai's publication and wrote:
"Here is another fake news from an aide to the working governor, we all know why he will say anything to defend the ex militants from Gbaramatu. Who nor go protect pot of soup? 🍲"
The remark, which directly mentioned Ossai Ovie Success, quickly drew reactions from social media users, many of whom expressed surprise that two officials serving under the same administration would openly disagree over such a sensitive issue.
The exchange has further highlighted the divisions and emotions surrounding the controversial ward and polling unit delineation in Warri Federal Constituency, an issue that has generated protests and heightened tensions among the Ijaw, Itsekiri and Urhobo ethnic nationalities.
Political observers have called for restraint and urged public office holders to avoid statements capable of worsening the already delicate situation in the oil-rich region.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Governor Sheriff Oborevwori nor the Delta State Government had officially commented on the public disagreement between the two aides.
The ward delineation exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) continues to attract intense debate, with stakeholders from the three ethnic groups maintaining differing positions on the matter.
