Governor Okpebholo Commissions 2.5MVA Sub-Station to Power Six Communities in Edo Central

Udomi, Edo State – Monday, 9th June 2025

Fulfilling a key campaign promise, the Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has commissioned a 2.5MVA injection sub-station in Udomi, Esan Central Local Government Area, aimed at delivering steady electricity to over six previously underserved communities.
The governor, who visited the completed sub-station alongside top government officials and technical partners, described the project as a major step toward grassroots development and a sign that governance is now reaching the people in tangible ways.
“I feel very happy and great bringing development to the people of these communities,” Governor Okpebholo stated. “You can see the happiness in their faces. They had not experienced governance in a long while, but my administration is committed to changing that narrative.”
The sub-station, which has been integrated into the power grid by the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), is expected to transform the electricity supply in the region by powering more than nine transformers and reducing the load on the main 33KVA line by stepping it down to 11KVA for local distribution.
Engr. Mokwenye Jidenmah, Business Head of Technical Operations at BEDC, confirmed the technical readiness of the sub-station, adding:
“This 2.5MVA sub-station will start supplying power today. It will serve communities like Udomi 1, Ujabhole 1, Unogbo, Idimoghodor, Ibhioloulu, and Afuda in Uwessan. This is a significant development for Edo Central.”
Governor Okpebholo emphasised that the project aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, stressing that electricity access would open up economic opportunities and support small businesses across the region.
“This sub-station will surely open up this area and bring economic development. Businesses will thrive with constant electricity,” he said.
In addition to the sub-station project, Governor Okpebholo also visited the site of the upcoming Edo State College of Nursing, Health Sciences and Technology. He commended the Edo State House of Assembly for passing the enabling legislation for the institution, which he has signed into law.
“I want to thank the Edo State House of Assembly for their support in ensuring the passage of the bill establishing the Edo State College of Nursing, Health Sciences and Technology Law, Udomi, 2025. This project is a testament to our seriousness about building a better Edo,” he added.
The administration has promised more developmental projects across the state, affirming its commitment to making Edo a beacon of infrastructure, education, and economic opportunity.
