Gunmen Kidnap GIGM Bus Passengers in Kogi, Demand N100 Million Ransom Per Person

In a harrowing incident, gunmen abducted multiple passengers traveling on a GIGMobility (GIGM) bus on Saturday in the Obajana area of Kogi State, demanding a staggering N100 million ransom for each captive. The bus, en route from Lagos to Abuja, was attacked near the Dangote refinery at Obajana, leaving only the driver free, as he managed to escape the scene.
Eyewitness accounts and social media posts have shed light on the ordeal. A user on X (formerly Twitter) revealed that her friend, who had just attended her convocation in Cotonou, Benin Republic, was among the kidnapped passengers. In a desperate plea, she wrote, “Please guys, I need your help. My friend was kidnapped at Lokoja, Kogi State, and the kidnappers are demanding N100 million for her release. No amount is too small.”
Another witness who narrowly escaped the incident shared his experience, explaining how he saw the bus with its windscreens shattered. “I drove past the scene, and it was only the driver left. The bus had passed us earlier at Kabba, but our car overheated, so we had to stop. That’s what saved us.”
GIGM confirmed the abduction in a statement released on Sunday evening, expressing their concern and solidarity. “We understand the urgency and emotions surrounding this situation. Please know that we are also deeply affected by this incident,” the company stated.
As of now, the whereabouts of the passengers remain unknown, and efforts are underway to secure their release. Authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident. This tragic event underscores the rising insecurity in Kogi State, which has become a hotspot for kidnappings and violent crimes.
The public is urged to offer any information that could aid in the safe return of the abductees, while prayers and donations flood social media in support of the victims and their families.
