Nigerian Police Arrest Five Trans-Border Gunrunning Suspects, Recover Israeli AK-47 Rifles and Other Firearms

In a major breakthrough, the Nigeria Police Force announced the arrest of five suspects involved in trans-border gunrunning and the recovery of 17 firearms and ammunition. The arrests were made by the Force Intelligence Bureau - Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) on November 18, 2024.
The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, revealed the suspects' identities as Adamu Noma, Matthew Audu, Andrew Poyi, Aminu Sani, and Aminu Talha. Upon their apprehension, the police recovered an alarming cache of weapons, including 10 locally fabricated AK-47 rifles, five Israeli AK-47 rifles, a revolver pistol, a pump-action shotgun, 20 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, and a welding machine used for weapon fabrication.
“These feats, along with numerous others, underscore the steadfastness and commitment of the current police leadership to combat criminal activities and enhance security across the country,” Adejobi stated.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has reiterated his directive to all operatives, particularly tactical units, to intensify efforts to eradicate illegal arms. He emphasized the importance of dismantling local manufacturing networks for illicit firearms, stressing that every available resource must be deployed to secure the nation.
This operation highlights the dedication of the Nigerian Police to address the proliferation of illegal arms, especially those crossing international borders, and serves as a reminder of the ongoing battle against gun violence and insecurity in the country.
