NAFDAC Seals Sokoto Warehouse Over Unregistered Food Products and Excessive MSG Levels

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has taken decisive action in Sokoto State by sealing a warehouse identified as Dee-Lite IMPEX Distribution Co. Ltd. The enforcement comes after the agency uncovered 5,347 bags of Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) and other unregistered food products at the facility located on Coca-Cola Road, off Western Bypass.

According to a statement issued by NAFDAC on Monday, the warehouse was found to be selling raw MSG, imported under a permit intended strictly for processing, directly to consumers as a finished product. This action violates the agency’s regulations, particularly as the quantity of MSG discovered exceeded the approved safety limits.

In addition to the MSG, NAFDAC seized unregistered food products, including 193 cartons of Orange Fruity and 71 cartons of Toffeeman Coconut Bites.

Further investigations led NAFDAC officials to Sokoto Old Market, where 235 bags of FUFENG Monosodium Glutamate were discovered stored in various shops. These products were promptly placed on hold to prevent their distribution.

NAFDAC confirmed that a representative of the company has been arrested and is undergoing interrogation as part of efforts to impose regulatory sanctions.

The agency reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of food products in the country, warning against the unauthorized sale and distribution of unregistered or improperly labeled items.
