BREAKING: Port Harcourt Refinery Resumes Operations, Processes Crude at 60,000 bpd – NNPC
The Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has announced the long-awaited resumption of crude oil processing at the Port Harcourt Refinery in Rivers State. This marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s energy sector as the facility begins operations at 60 percent capacity, processing 60,000 barrels of crude oil per day (bpd).
The development was disclosed on Tuesday by the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of the NNPCL, Femi Soneye, who described the event as a monumental achievement for the nation.
“Port Harcourt Refinery Begins Production; Truck Loading Starts Today, Tuesday!” Soneye declared via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, alongside a celebratory message.
“This groundbreaking milestone signifies a new era of energy independence and economic growth for our nation,” he stated. Soneye extended congratulations to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the NNPC Board, and the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO), Mele Kyari, for their dedication to the transformative project.
The refinery's reopening marks the end of numerous missed deadlines for production resumption, and truck loading operations are also set to begin immediately.
Soneye added that the NNPCL is actively working to restore operations at the Warri Refinery, with further updates expected soon.
The resumption of operations at the Port Harcourt Refinery signals progress in Nigeria's quest to achieve energy security, reduce dependence on imported refined products, and strengthen its economy.
